DeVry Advantage Academy
DeVry Advantage Academy is a dual-enrollment, dual-credit program that allows students to earn an associate degee from an accredited university while they finish high school.
DeVry started Advantage Academy to meet the needs of low and moderate-income students by:
1. Increasing the number of college-ready and employment-ready high school graduates
2. Improving college access for students with limited financial resources
3. Introducing students from underserved communities to career opportunities in high-demand fields like technology and accounting
4. Reducing barriers to well-paying jobs for this population
Advantage Academy is completed over two years and one summer. Students enroll at the end of their sophomore year, start classes their junior year, then complete their senior year as well as one summer term. At the conclusion, students earn their high school diploma as well as their associate degree in Web Graphic Design.
Tuition, books and charges for all eligible courses are paid for by the school district, DeVry, or other funders-such as institutional, corporate or foundation grants-saving students and families money.
DeVry University Advantage Academy launched in Houston, Texas, in 2011 in partnership with Houston Independent School District.
Courses at Advantage Academy are taken at H.P. Carter Career Center, a newly renovated building in the city's Fifth Ward. Certified HISD teachers lead high school classes, while college courses are taught by industry-experienced DeVry professors.

Tech Day
Geared toward high school students enrolled in CATE courses, Tech Day contains interactive workshops that will give students the opportunity to discover and evaluate key technology applications through hands-on exploration. Tech Day events can be tailored to address a broad spectrum of student education needs such as Cisco Systems overview, robotics instruction, introductory electronics, computer programming, and database creation. Educators can contact the Community Outreach office to specify activity requests. Each of the interactive workshops is designed to give students a realistic view of how to execute a technical application within a team. The day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 1:00 pm. Breakfast and lunch is provided by DeVry University. A Tech Day can be scheduled within 10 business days for up to 150 participants.
Call 713.973.3068 or email agarza@devry.edu to book a Tech Day.
HerWorld®
HerWorld is designed to increase young women's awareness of their vital importance in technology-related careers. According to the American Association of University Women, technology classes, stereotypes about appropriate careers for girls, a lack of female role models and the absence of basic career information dampened girls' interest in technology-related careers. HerWorld addresses girls' perceptions of technology-related careers by introducing them to female volunteers who work in technology, an industry that is consistently dominated by men. Students and educators are exposed to an eventful day full of hands-on activities and useful information. The day begins at 9:00 am and ends at 2:00pm. Lunch is provided by DeVry University. HerWorld occurs once a year and can accommodate up to 400 participants.
Call 713.973.3068 or email agarza@devry.edu to reserve your group's space at HerWorld.
